How to Create Folder Backgrounds for Disk Images
If you are interested in making a professional looking diskimage, like this one below from Skype it is really pretty simple.
Create a writable image file with Disk Utility and mount it
Copy the folder you want to burn to the mounted image
Create another folder on the mounted image called something like bgimg
Right click in the mounted disk image and select Show View Options
A window such as the one below will pop up.
Now putting a background image is as simple as dragging it from your bgimg folder on the drive to that little box that says “Drag image here”
At this time feel free to change other elements
Protip: old people have a hard time reading small things so pump up that icon and text size.
In order to make this look seamless it is necessary to hide the bgimg folder.
We will be doing this using the terminal.
Open Terminal and navigate to the image (cd /Volumes/imagename)
Make the folder invisible (chflags hidden /Volumes/imagename/bgimage)
Insert DVD or CD.
Now right-click on the .dmg select Burn to Disc
And you are done. Congrats.
